"Get out!" the man roared. The boy, Kourton, had thrown me across his back, with one hand holding my wrists at the hollow of his neck and the other making sure I didn't fall off.
"Vera! Grab some food and blankets for her!" he shouted. The younger girl, Vera, had already done as he said, and was at Kourton's side in a blur.
"Kourton, Vera, run!" Their mother said, turning to fight the black cloaked man that their father was fighting. Vera and I gasped as their father turned to ash.
"Vera! We have to run! He'll come for us next!" Kourton shouted over the roaring flames. Vera's eyes were glistening with tears, but she nodded. Kourton didn't hesitate to run straight through the flames- thankfully we used toe door to get out of the house. Hot ashes flew out of the house and at us, but he didn't stop. Vera was soon beside him. The cold night air stung my face, and I ducked down as far as I could on his back, trying to keep his whip-like hair and the cold wind out of my face.
Suddenly, we stopped. I looked up; there was a jagged cliff edge in front of us.
"He's coming!" she cried.
"We've got to jump!" Kourton said.
"I've never jumped that far before, Kourton!" Vera said hysterically.
"We've got no choice!" Kourton growled, shoving his sister off the cliff. He cast a glance back; I whimpered, seeing a cloaked figure emerge into a clearing in the forest. Kourton took a deep breath, then flung us out over the edge.
I screamed. Kourton covered my mouth, turning so I was cradled in his arms, like a baby. His arms were cold and hard, like steel. He was upright, and he literally hit the ground running. We met up with Vera at the base of the cliff, then disappeared into the nearby f0rest. It was only luck that the cloaked man didn't find us immediately.
The animals were silent; no birds rustled in their nests, and no nocturnal animals dared to venture out of their dwellings.
We could hear his breathing. Kourton pulled us into the bushes a split second before the man stepped into the clearing. Vera closed her eyes, concentrating. Through a gap in the bushes, I could see the man.
I couldn't see his eyes; he was pale, and his face was sharp and angular. His lips even looked as if they were carved from stone. He was as white as snow, and his skin was stark against the black cloak he wore. He sniffed the air, looking around. When he found nothing, he snarled, baring his teeth in a horrible grimace. He took one step, and then he was gone. The leaves barely rustled- there was no trace of his passage. I huddled in fear next to Kourton; Vera opened her eyes again, looking over at us. She placed a creamy finger to her lips, almost audibly saying, "Sshhhh."
I opened my eyes to ask what she was doing, but Kourton covered my mouth again.
She was hiding us, A voice told me inside my head.
So that's why he didn't find us, I thought.
Yes. We can't talk out loud anymore, alright?
Okay, I thought.
Try not to think. Just sleep. Okay?
Okay, I repeated. Kourton placed his hand over my eyes, and I immediately sleepy. Cold hands caught me; that was the last thing I remembered before I was completely unconcious.
<> <> <>
When I woke up, there was no fire. The blankets had been thrown over me, and two charred animals lay on a leaf next to a roll by my head. I wondered if I was expected to eat it.
"What is this?" I whispered. Kourton opened his mouth to say something, but Vera covered his mouth and spoke instead.
"Trust me, you don't want to know." Her eyes were slightly puffy, as if she had been crying. I looked at the charred little animals, my stomach actually growling, as if they looked appetizing. In a gross way, it was food, and it did sound good to eat again. I wondered if they had already eaten.
We don't have to eat, the voice said.
Why?
We just don't.
I closed my eyes and picked up one of the little charred animals, shoving the whole thing into my mouth and barely chewing. I swallowed it quickly, trying not to taste the burnt parts. I ate the roll last, then the leaf, idly hoping it would get the charred taste out of my mouth. It didn't work- it only made it taste worse. Kourton laughed at the face I made after I swallowed the leaf, and soon he and Vera were in tears they were laughing so hard.

Chapter 2- Confusion(the first story, Dreamers Oblivion)
The black couch that I woke up on was black; the rest of the house was in reds and browns. Altogether it was a very warm-looking room. A blanket had been draped over me, I noticed; and then I saw him. The boy who had carried me was watching me, his eyes curious and soft. I pulled the blanket over me. After a moment, he peeked under the blanket, his eyes playful.
"I see you," he whispered. I tried not to laugh, but giggled once anyway; after that, there was no stopping it. I laughed harder and harder, and soon the boy was laughing, too. He smiled, his reddish brown hair falling into his eyes. They were a deep brown today, almost the same color as his hair.
"Come on, breakfast is ready!" a voice said from the other room. It was female, higher, probably a younger girl, maybe the one I saw last night.
"Coming, Vera," he replied. "Alright, blanketbug, are you hungry?" he asked with a smile. I nodded. Then I remembered the man from last night, how scary he had been. I shook my head. The boy became confused; he seemed to read my thoughts.
"My dad is nice." he said. I wasn't so sure. The cape and the black clothes looked a lot like the clothes the man who burned my house down had been wearing. But even then I wasn't sure, and I was scared. I began remembering fragments of that night, the fear. The boy's eyes glazed over, as if he was seeing the memories with me. His mouth opened and closed several times, but he never spoke. It was as if he couldn't speak.
"Kourton! Her food's getting cold!" the same voice called from the other room.
"Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you." he promised. He offered me his hand, and I took it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The kitchen was very open, with shiny black appliances and black countertops. More reds and browns were in the kitchen, making it seem even larger and very warm.
The boy's family was seated around a dark oaken table; I eyed them all carefully. The boy squeezed my fingers encouragingly; the man was staring at me. It seemed like he was staring like he knew me. Could he be the one who killed me parents and family and destroyed my home?
The boy pulled a chair out for me; I sat, almost falling over when it was high. He caught me and helped me up, then sat down next to me.
"Kourton, would you like to tell us about her?" the man said. Kourton, the boy, nodded, gathering his thoughts.
"She's five. She's scared- mostly of you," he nodded at the man. "She likes me. She doesn't know about any of us, really, and she's scared. Something really bad happened to her the night we...... um, the night we found her. I think it had to do with the smoke we could smell. Did you notice the werewolf scent on her? It's not hers, I can smell it. I think it was one of her relatives." the boy said.
"Very well, Kourton. We will leave her in your care, then, since she trusts you." When all of them seemed to be looking at the boy, I reached onto the table and took a roll-like thing really quick. I hoped none of them saw, because when I was done with that one(after about 3 seconds), I reached up and grabbed another. And another. And then another.
Before I grabbed my sixth roll thing, I looked around at all of them. They all seemed to be staring off into different directions, so I took two. They made my cheeks all puffy, and I quickly finished them.
Three glasses of milk were on the table by the rolls suddenly, and I took one at a time, sucking them down as quickly as I could. I yawned, finally full, and closed my eyes.
When I opened them, I was in the room again, on the couch. The blanket was back over me, and the boy had his own blanket, laying on the couch across from mine, a small table between the two couches. He wasn't asleep; he was staring up at the ceiling, his hands behind his head. His tawney hair was messed up and looked like he had been running his fingers through it a lot lately. I waited for him to look over, like I was sure he would, but he didn't for hours. I fell in and out of bouts of sleep, every time I woke up, he was in the same position. I started to wonder if he ever slept.
When I woke up the next time, it was because there was fire.
"I see you," he whispered. I tried not to laugh, but giggled once anyway; after that, there was no stopping it. I laughed harder and harder, and soon the boy was laughing, too. He smiled, his reddish brown hair falling into his eyes. They were a deep brown today, almost the same color as his hair.
Range Zero
New Story, new storyline. My dad says that he doesn't particularly like me writing books, says I have my whole life to be writing books. Don't think this s going to stop me. It's my life, after all. He also said that every time I wrote a book, it was almost identical to ones I had recently read. I won't deny that this is somewhat true. I have tried to not do that, actually. It's kind of hard, since you have the one story bouncing around inside your head and interfering with your thoughts of a new story. But this isn't like anything I have ever done before. One of the only books I have recently read have been Dewey, about a cat, who lives in a library, and Merupuri. I've been busy outside of that with sports, homework, and trying to write. And I'm trying to make my handwriting easier to read. Changing a habit like the way you write is actually quite difficult, but I have done something similar in the past, with a little detirmination and perserverance. It was hard but not impossible.
Like most of my story ideas, this one was adapted from our experiences as Dreamers. This is a strange new twist, and since I have not decided on an ending, it may be discontinued. I hope this is okay considering I normally have a bad habit of leaving one story and finding another to write. I'll try to finish Oblivion but it may take a while, just like books do.
And now for the very first page of the very first rough draft of Range Zero.
You know, the major presentation of this whole post.
What? You fell asleep, you say? Oh. I didn't know I was that boring. ( =P =D)
JUST KIDDING
"They murdered people!" Someone shouted.
"They are killers! Anyone could be next!"
The riot outside the Judicial house grew louder, pressing closer and closer to the doors, threatening to burst in, shouting and screaming. Men pushed them back, allowing room for a man to stand and talk. Before he would say a word, one of the creatures being pushed back got a few words out.
"If we ever did something like that, we would be sentenced to human hunting just the sae as anyone else! Why are they any different?" The man growled, his brow creased in a glare.
"Quiet! Quiet down!" The man who had come out of th ebuilding yelled, waving his arms. "THe system will let you all know the verdict. Please, go home."
*-*-*-*-*-*
"Please! We were only trying to help!" I screamed.
"You don't understand, do you?" the judge asked, almost rhetorically. He leaned over his stand to glare at my companions and I.
"You are being charged with homocide for killing Giabutsu, when he was your ally! Everyone
treats you as traitors, no matter waht way you look at it, because you killed him."
"We didn't know! We thought-"
"SILENCE!" The judge called, smacking his hand against his stand.
"These are the consequences of your actions, and you must deal with them like anyone else. You will be sent to the human world immediatly for the humans to hunt, like in their fairy tails. This is the sentence for murder. You must accept it, because you have no other choice."
I looked up at the man, my eyes wide and filling with tears of disbeleif. My hands were cuffed behind me, and I was blind folded, then lead somewhere. Before they lead me any further than two feet, one said, "Make sure you tie her wings before you let her go. She'll escape otherwise."
I shivered. They were going to make sure the humans would find my companions and I, and we would all die. We would all die, only because we tried to find change in a changless world like ours.
Something rope-like wrapped around my torso many times, and I felt my wings being drawn in tighter to my body, almost to the point of pain. Feathers were pulled in the process. No one apologized. I didn't expect anyone to.
I could feel the light breeze on my face and I could smell all the people outside among the people leading me, though since I was blindfolded, I couldn't see them. Once I passed by, they started ylelling and cheering, for reasons I didn't know.
I could hear the barriers open before I went through them. Tomo was the guardian of this barrier, and she was the one letting us go to our deaths. I knew she had no choice, but still, the pain inside of me was horrible. I could tell she was crying too, because I could hear it. My companions were crying, too, and I didn't blame them. We were being lead to our deaths. Tears wet my blindfold.
A strong wave of nausea swept over me as we changed worlds, and I could smell the human smells. Mainly humans, Earth animals, some pollution. We must have been on a mountain, because the air here was cool, crisp, and fresh.
"Alright, Yasani, you know the rules. You can explain it to them while we untie them." the one leading me said. A man stood before us; I could tell he was human from his scent. When my blindfold was lifted, I could see that he was tall and slim, with dark black hair that was all over the place on his head and obviously not thought about much. His skin was tan, sort of, but light at the same time. He wore leather and a hat that reminded me of the ones you see on old western movies in the Human world. He also wore a smirk that told me he was going to be the one hunting us.
A woman with sandy blonde hair came up beside him. She was wearing contact lenses, which I could see, and had much the same smile, onl hers was more lethal. I would have to worry about her. The man I could deal with.
"What the heck is going on I mean come on we were just trying to help someone has to try to change things right why would it not work huh why are you doing this we don't deserve this please don't do this!!!" someone burst out from behind me. I couldn't tell who because I was focusing on the woman's wicked smile. SHe started laughing when they started talking; it started as a snicker, then a full on laugh. SHe looked over to the man.
"I love it when they plead. Don't you think it makes it better?" THe man nodded.
"Yasani! Start explaining." someone barked. The man rolled his eyes.
"Why you are here, I don't know, and I don't care. I don't care how old you are or what you are, and what you are going to do here is be game. In twenty-four hours, seven hunters will be released into the area where you are being held. This area is two miles by two miles. There is already other game creatures here, and other hunters, so your chances of running into a hunter of other creatures is almost as high as in your original world. We will hunt you until we catch you, and once we are finished, you will all be dead, and we will have what we want. In the 24 hours you are allotted, you will hide as best you can in the 2 square miles you are given. ZTomorrow morning the hunters will be released. Myself and my partner, Aeki, will be two of the seven hunters released. You're free to run now...." the man and the woman walked into a door way. Slowly, it started to close.
"See you in the morning," the woman called as the door shut.
